OUR mens senior world champions curlers team take to the ice today for the first time since their historic win in Taarnby on April 21st this year.
The team, along with the Irish ladies seniors ,are taking part in the European Seniors Invitation at Greenacres Ice Rink.
The men – Johnjo Kenny, Bill Gray, David Whyte, Tony Tierney and fifth man David Hume will play Karl Grossmann from Switzerland at 10.45am today and follow up with a 7pm game against former world senior champion Keith Prentice from Scotland.
Tomorrow they play Sergey Korklenko from Russia at 12.45pm and on Friday at 8.30am take on the Italian team skipped by Carlo Carrea and at 2pm they play their final round-robin game against Win Needeman from the Netherlands.
The ladies team – Marie O’Kane, Gilly Drury, Christina Graham and Charlotte Tierney (filling in for Louise Kerr) will play world senior silver medallists Barbara Watt from Scotland at 2pm this afternoon and come up against Bitte Oslund from Sweden at 7pm tonight.
On Thursday at 4pm the ladies play Renata Nedkoff of Switzerland and on Friday at 8.30am the opposition is Margerta Matuskovicova from Slovakia and their final round-robin game is against Lois Brown from Scotland at 4.15pm.
The semi finals at at 7pm on Friday and the final is at 3pm on Saturday.
