Held at Auchenharvie Ice Rink in Stevenson, Scotland on Wednesday 5th October 2005.
This friendly annual event was revived by the ICA in 1994 but was first played in 1861.
Originally we hoped to play it alternating between Irish and Scottish ice rinks,
however we cannot provide ice time in Ireland at the moment, so
for the fifth year running Stevenson Ice rink hosted the event.
The Trophy is the Belfast Medal hanging in a wooden curling stone.
The medal was originally played for between Belfast Union and RCCC.
The competition was played on two rinks. The ICA curlers were
* Bill Gray,
* Ron Paterson,
* Jane Paterson,
* Ros Barnes.
* Bobby Gault,
* David McClure,
* Tom Roche,
* Liz Knox.
This year games were closely fought with Bill Gray's team losing 5-6 and
Bobby Gault's team losing 6-9.
Overall result: Ardrossan Castle:15, ICA 11.
Ardrossan Castle were extremely hospitable as usual and the games were close & played on very keen ice
in the best of spirit. After the match both teams repaired to the bar for a drink where sandwiches were
provided. It was discovered that we couldn’t hand over the trophy because it was still in Tony Tierney’s house!!
We pledged to return it ASAP!!
The ICA President thanked Ardrossan Castle for their hospitality
and hoped that one day soon we might be "able to get them on our own ice".
